NOCTURNE

DOWNTOWN DESIGN | DUBAI

Downtown Design

A Choreography of Objects and Atmosphere. Traditionally a musical composition inspired by the night, a Nocturne becomes, in BOI’s hands, a study in atmosphere and reflection. Marking BOI’s first curatorial statement in Dubai, the presentation explores how collectible design transforms when placed in intimate, lived settings rather than isolated display. Like a score, Nocturne orchestrates tone and mood through a choreography of objects moving with poetic slowness; materials and finishes that are dark, sensual, and immersive. Each piece is both functional and narrative, a protagonist within the home rather than passive décor. A stripped-back, material-rich minimalism runs through the exhibition, grounding atmosphere in craft and permanence. As in music, where silence is as powerful as sound, the spatial interplay of light and texture in Nocturne evokes intimacy, reflection, and pause - suggesting design as something to be experienced rhythmically, over time. Designers including Corpus Studio, Tim Vranken, Sophie Dries, Jojo Corvaia, Agglomerati, Studio Khachatryan, Blue Green Works, and Tom Fereday bring stone, glass, and wood into dialogue with this premise. As a collective, their practices converge around atmosphere, ritual, and raw materiality - a shared language that underscores BOI’s vision of design as lived experience.
